The MineSafe Side Opening Container

Easy Access. Temperature Control. Heavy-Duty Protection.

When containers are used on demanding mining, industrial or remote sites, standard access isn’t always enough.

The MineSafe Side Opening Container combines the accessibility of a side-opening shipping container with insulation, air conditioning and heavy-duty flooring to create a practical solution for storing and handling temperature-sensitive goods.

Designed for operations where cargo needs to be loaded from the front or the full side of the container, this configuration provides considerably easier access than a conventional container while maintaining a robust, secure structure.

Built for Demanding Sites

This 20ft Side Opening Container was designed for a mining-site application where the contents needed to be maintained at a relatively stable temperature.

Rather than relying on a conventional refrigerated container, the unit uses full internal insulation and two independently operated split-system air conditioners to manage the internal environment.

The two air-conditioning systems provide an element of redundancy: one system can operate as the primary unit while the second can be kept available as a backup should the primary system experience a fault.

The air-conditioning systems can also be configured for remote operation, allowing authorised personnel to manage the units without necessarily being physically present at the container.

Modified Side Opening Container Features

The MineSafe configuration includes:

  • New Build 20ft High Cube Side Opening Container
  • 3-Coat Custom Paint System
  • 50mm EPS Full Internal Insulation
  • 2 x 3.5kW Split-System Air Conditioners
  • Remote-operated air-conditioning capability
  • Recessed air-conditioner cavities
  • Heavy-Duty Steel Checker-Plate Flooring
  • Steel RHS-framed mesh protective cage
  • Protective cage designed to fold up and protect the air-conditioning units during cargo loading
  • Full electrical fit-out
  • Electrical sub-board
  • RCD protection
  • Dedicated circuits for both air-conditioning units
  • Junction box

Heavy-Duty Steel Flooring

Regular loading and unloading can place significant demands on a container floor, particularly when heavy equipment, pallets or machinery are moved in and out repeatedly.

For this application, the standard marine plywood flooring was replaced with heavy-duty steel checker plate.

This provides a durable working surface designed for demanding loading environments and frequent cargo movement.

Protected Air-Conditioning Systems

The air-conditioning units are installed within recessed cavities to help protect the equipment.

A steel RHS-framed mesh cage provides an additional layer of protection and is designed to fold up when necessary to allow access to the air-conditioning units.

This helps reduce the risk of equipment being damaged during loading and unloading operations.

Ideal for Mining & Industrial Applications

The combination of side access, insulation, air conditioning and heavy-duty flooring makes this type of container particularly useful for demanding South African environments.

Potential applications include:

  • Mining operations
  • Industrial sites
  • Remote worksites
  • Temperature-sensitive equipment storage
  • Technical equipment storage
  • Electrical equipment
  • Instrumentation
  • Components and spare parts
  • Agricultural operations
  • Logistics and warehousing
  • Construction projects
  • Infrastructure projects
  • Remote depots
  • Specialist storage facilities

Where temperature control is important, the required internal temperature range and environmental conditions should be assessed before selecting the final cooling and insulation configuration.

Designed Around Your Loading Requirements

Side-opening containers are particularly useful when conventional end-door access makes loading difficult.

The large side opening allows forklifts, equipment and personnel to access the container from the side, while the end doors provide an additional loading point.

This gives operators greater flexibility when organising cargo and equipment inside the container.
